Frozen just this past weekend passed Finding Nemo‘s domestic take to become the highest-grossing original animated film ever, but the film is far away from letting up its momentum, as some territories around the world have yet to see the film released in their region. The film’s soundtrack even reclaimed the top spot on the Billboard chart, selling an additional 93,000 copies last week. Frozen is not done with theaters in the United States, though, as there is a sing-along version debuting this weekend, and it is currently the top seller on Fandango!
Previously set to arrive in approximately 1,000 theaters, that number has since been doubled, as Disney today announced that over 2,000 theaters nationwide would be seeing the sing-along version. Perhaps a response to the incredible projection of the film and the soundtrack, the increase in the theaters showcasing the sing-along version is significant. Although the film’s biggest fans, who have been devouring the soundtrack for months, may not require seeing the lyrics on screen in order to be able to sing along, the release is a nice way for fans of the film to return to see it once more (or a few times more) before the end of its run.
TheWrap also reports that Frozen: Sing-Along is currently sitting at the top of Fandango’s charts, selling more tickets than both previously released films and upcoming films. A visit to Fandango confirms as much. It is an impressive feat for a film that has been in theaters since Thanksgiving! We will have to wait and see how it performs, as there are still regular showings of the film in theaters as well. Additionally, it is Super Bowl weekend, which is historically small in terms of ticket sales, so we could very well see a bump in Frozen‘s take this weekend, with less major competition from other films.
Frozen: Sing-Along debuts this Friday, January 31st! To find a theater near you that is playing the sing-along version, visit Fandango.
