In conjunction with San Diego Comic Con, Disney Interactive set up a pop-up shop near the convention center for Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes, the ambitious follow-up to the incredibly successful Disney Infinity. There, fans can get a closer look at the current build of the game and can try it out for themselves. On the heels of the announcement of a Guardians of the Galaxy Play Set for the game, a release date was announced and it is sooner than you think – you can pick up the game on September 23rd!
With the approaching release date for Guardians, Disney pulled back the curtain on the Play Set based on the film. Physical figures will be released for all major characters in the film: Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Drax, Gamora, and Groot. A cool change from the first version of the game is that a few characters from other Play Sets will be allowed to visit. Here, Iron Man and Nova will be able to venture over to the Guardians Play Set, and team up with characters from the film. The team-up is a time-honored tradition in comics and it is great to see the developers at Avalanche celebrate that.
Here is a close-up of the figures, which will definitely become collector’s items:
There will also be Guardians of the Galaxy-themed power discs that fans can collect and use to get upgrades and themes for the game’s Toy Box mode, where gamers can build their own world and play in it. The power discs are:

Additionally, this week, Disney announced a special collection exclusively for PS3 and PS4 owners. Dubbed the Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes Collector’s Edition, it will include all six Avengers Play Set figures (Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Captain America, and Hulk). It gives Sony a leg up on competition as Hulk will not debut until a month later on other platforms. Also, the regular Starter Pack only comes with Iron Man, Thor, and Black Widow, so there will be fewer figures to purchase later. The coolest part of the Collector’s Edition is the special diorama display, which incorporates a massive Frost Beast and lights, instantly making it the best Disney Infinity display we have seen so far. There are actually seven spots for figures, but that is because Disney will announce one last one in the near future. The set will retail for $179.99 and it will be available at the game’s launch.
Sony is going further in its partnership with Disney, though, as it will ship an exclusive hardware bundle that will include a PS3 and the starter pack. It will retail for $249.99 and will come with a 12 GB hard drive, which amounts to a great savings for those looking to buy both.
Although those who do not have Sony consoles may feel frustrated with being left out of some of these deals, seeing them offered is great news for everyone as it indicates just how successful Disney Infinity has become and demonstrates there is a long life ahead for the platform. There is potential to see more exclusives such as these in the future, and that is because the game keeps soaring in popularity. The longer Disney Infinity is around, the greater the room for more characters, Play Sets, and power discs, incredible news for fans.
Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes for Xbox 360, Xbox One, Ps3, PS4, and Wii U officially goes on sale at retailers nationwide on September 23rd! Although the line-up above focuses on Marvel characters, we do know that there will be Disney characters who will be making their debut in the game, including Merida, Maleficent, and Stitch. Additionally, there will be more announcements about other additions in the near future.
This weekend, you can pre-order the game at the Disney Infinity Pop-Up Shop (343 4th Ave. San Diego, CA 92101) and at Marvel’s Comic Con booth (#2329). You can also pre-order it now from Amazon.com.
