Maleficent, a live-action film that tells the tale of the classic Sleeping Beauty from the perspective of the iconic villain, has grossed over $630 million worldwide thus far, providing evidence to Disney that audiences may flock to live-action remakes. With a live-action take on Cinderella slated for release next year, and with The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast currently in development, the mouse house is showing no signs of slowing down. Actually it only seems to be speeding up, as we now hear that a live-action Dumbo is in the works.
Dumbo is considered one of the all-time greats from Disney. Although there is some controversy surrounding the film’s portrayal of African Americans, the film’s popularity has endured, thanks to the heartwarming story and the incredible soundtrack. For the past few decades, Dumbo has been the star of his very own attraction at various Disney Parks, in the form of a classic spinner ride. The elephant is re-entering the spotlight, though, with THR reporting that Transformers writer Ehren Kruger is working on a script for a live-action film. Additionally, Justin Springer, producer of Tron: Legacy, is producing the film along with Kruger.
There are no further details or even an estimated release date, so there is no confirmation that we will see the film in theaters one day. Stay tuned.
