Aladdin preview performances are now underway on Broadway, with the official opening night rapidly approaching. Those audiences that have had a chance to see the show have been some of the first people to actually see and hear the cast sing the iconic music from the film (as well as several new songs that were written just for the stage production). The rest of us, though, have not seen any of the songs being performed – until now that is!
Disney has released a new video documenting the behind-the-scenes process, but this time we get the chance to hear the cast sing their hearts out. The video provides footage from the show’s “Sitzprobe” session, which is the day that the cast first gets together and just sings the music. Although it is missing the theatricality that is added later, it allows the stars to get comfortable with their fellow performers and the songs themselves, as the Sitzprobe is just about the music and nothing else.
“A Whole New World” is nowhere in sight, but that is just the creative team keeping the great song under wraps, because it is the most famous song that many audience members will be anticipating. Still, just from spending a few minutes with the cast in the video, it is easy to see the talent on stage and how much fun they are having. That fun is infectious and has the potential to spread to those viewing the musical – something that we hope to see happen.
Aladdin is now playing on Broadway, with opening night scheduled for Thursday, March 20th! Visit the show’s official website for tickets.
