Although many of us are tired at the end of a long day walking around Disney’s theme parks, enjoying the attractions and entertainment, it is a great feeling to be accomplish a visit that lasts from the time the park opens until it closes. Disney threw open the gates of Magic Kingdom and Disneyland for 24-hours on February 29th, 2012, as a way to celebrate the “one more day” of the year. After holding another 24-hour party in the summer last year, Disney is officially making it a tradition, as it has announced another event for 2014!
In 2013, the 24-hour event was held during Memorial Day weekend. This year’s extravaganza will return to that Friday date, which kicks off the long weekend, May 23rd. At Walt Disney World, Magic Kingdom will stay open, while on the west coast, both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure will join in. The actual park hours for the three will be as follows: opening will be May 23rd at 6 am, while closing will be May 24th at 6 am.
The Disney Parks Blog (along with many of the Disney Parks-related Twitter accounts) shared a humorous image of 140 characters in the shape of a hashtag (Get it? Twitter only allows 140 characters in its…yeah, you get it):
I had the opportunity to join in on the fun for the “One More Day” celebration at Magic Kingdom in 2012, and you could sense an extra buzz in the air from excited fans at the park. It is the type of day you can only dream up – the opportunity to soak in the park until you physically cannot move anymore. Although that sounds intimidating, the sense of accomplishment and the adrenaline will make it a day that you will never forget. If you are planning on heading to the event this year, make sure to stop, rest, eat and drink every once in a while – the extra exhaustion will take its toll, so make sure you pace yourself! Above all, though, enjoy all the extra newfound time in the day.
