Disney is not only putting the finishing touches on Big Hero 6, the latest from the animation studio that last produced Frozen. Following the great success of Maleficent, a live-action spin-off inspired by Sleeping Beauty, the studio’s live-action arm is finalizing its adaptation of the popular musical Into The Woods, which mixes the stories of several Grimm fairy tale characters. Today, a new trailer was released, along with a bevy of images from the film. Get your best look at the film yet, after the break!
Based upon the musical by the great Stephen Sondheim, the film is directed by Rob Marshall, most notable for his work on the film musical Chicago. He forged his relationship with Disney, though, when he directed Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. This being a Disney live-action film, and given his ties with Marshall, it is no surprise that Johnny Depp will appear in the film as the Big Bad Wolf. He is surrounded by a star-studded cast that includes Anna Kendrick playing Cinderella, Meryl Streep as the witch, Emily Blunt, and Chris Pine.
The official synopsis of the film is:
“Into the Woods” is a modern twist on several of the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy)—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife (James Corden & Emily Blunt), their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch (Meryl Streep) who has put a curse on them.
