Shanghai Disneyland construction is moving along quickly, as Disney’s newest theme park destination is scheduled to open at the end of 2015, less than two years from now. As we creep towards opening date, we are getting a better understanding of what will look familiar to Disney Parks fans, but what will also provide the new park with its own identity. Today, we have our first look at Treasure Cove, the area of the park which is the first Pirates-themed land for a Disney park. Take a look at some stunning concept art after the break!
At Disney’s annual shareholders meeting, company CEO Bob Iger shared the inspiration for the new land, stating, “Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the most iconic attractions in our parks, and we really couldn’t imagine Shanghai Disneyland without Pirates. We wanted to create a one-of-a-kind experience that would appeal to our Chinese guests while remaining true to its Disney heritage” (via Disney Parks Blog). The headliner of Treasure Cove will be a brand new Pirates attraction, Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle of the Sunken Treasure, which will take guests on an adventure with Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones. Yes, this means that we have come full-circle, as the film, which was inspired by the original attraction, is now inspiring a new attraction.
Construction on the new Pirates ride, which hopefully lives up to the spectacular Pirates of the Caribbean attractions around the world, is in progress:
