It has been Marvel’s franchises that have received much of the attention in the build-up to the release of Disney Infinity 2.0, but that is a given since the game is called Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes. However, Disney Interactive has been promising that fans of Disney and Pixar characters would not be forgotten. Already announced for the game have been Maleficent, Stitch, and Merida. Disney has now announced that Aladdin and Jasmine are on their way too! Take a closer look at the characters in new images and video after the break.
The Aladdin franchise, still popular even though the Disney film was released over 20 years ago, has been missing from the world of video games for quite some time. No longer, though, as gamers will be able to play as both Aladdin and Jasmine in the new iteration of Disney Infinity. We saw hints to the film in the first game, including the addition of Abu as an elephant and the stunning Cave of Wonders entrance that players could add to the worlds they designed in the Toy Box mode. It was clear that the developers at Avalanche were fans of the film, but take a look at the new trailer featuring the two characters, and you will definitely spot some more fan service.
Below, you can get an up-close view at the design of the character figures. They will undoubtedly be some of the most popular in the series – the only other released figure that is from a film older than Aladdin is Sorcerer Mickey and he was the biggest selling individual figure for the first game.
The descriptions provided to us by Disney Interactive for the two characters are below:
- Aladdin: With a scimitar and a magic lamp at his disposal, Aladdin’s brand of action is the answer to all your Disney Infinity Toy Box 2.0 wishes. You’ll want to seek out this diamond in the rough. A proven fan favorite, Aladdin has consistently been one of the most requested characters since Disney Infinity was released last year.
- Jasmine: From within the walls of the Sultan’s palace in Agrabah, Princess Jasmine leaps into acrobatic action in Toy Box 2.0. With the help of a magic carpet, Jasmine can summon desert winds to keep enemies at bay.
One feature that extends the replay value of the Disney Infinity games is the Toy Box mode, where players can build whatever they choose. The Aladdin-themed power discs that will be sold will allow you to bring more of Agrabah to the customizable mode than ever before:
A few more images provide us with some perspective on how Aladdin and Jasmine will fit into Toy Box Mode with some of their Disney and Pixar counterparts:
Aladdin is set for release in the Fall, while Jasmine is headed to stores in early 2015. The Disney Infinity 2 starter pack goes on sale on September 23rd. I leave you with a fun peek behind-the-scenes at how Aladdin and Jasmine were brought to life in the game and for their figures:
