Well, that did not take long. After Elsa from Frozen made a surprise appearance in the season finale of Once Upon A Time, we learned that Anna and Kristoff would also be joining her. While the two latter characters were cast earlier this week, the actress who would play Elsa was not announced. In the show, only her back was shown, so the producers clearly had not settled upon who would play her just yet – at the time, they solely had the idea that they wanted to add the world of Frozen to the show. Today, we now know that actress Georgina Haig will fill the role.
Both EW and THR reported the news simultaneously – Haig, an actress from Australia whose largest role to date was on the sci-fi show Fringe, is set to play Elsa. Her latest role is on the show Reckless, which just premiered a few days ago on CBS, leading us to question how large of a role she will have on Once. Unless she is written out of the CBS show, she would likely have to balance her two roles, meaning Elsa would not be a season regular. We have not learned how large her arc will be on the fairy tale drama, but with all the hype the character addition has been earning, it certainly cannot be a throwaway role.
Given the attention that Frozen has been generating, ABC and the show’s creative team likely searched far and wide to see who would land the coveted spot. We should see how it turns out when Once Upon A Time premieres in September.
