Frozen‘s music has been sitting atop the Billboard charts for weeks, becoming the rare film soundtrack to enjoy that success. Although there are a number of memorable songs in the film, “Let It Go” is, without a doubt, the one that has resonated with audiences around the world. One search on YouTube will return thousands of covers performed by aspiring singers. At the Oscars, Idina Menzel, who provides Elsa’s speaking and singing voice, performed the song for millions. Watch the performance after the break!
Menzel brought the house down, displaying the great range in her voice that many have seen since she gained fame for her roles in Broadway shows “Rent” and “Wicked.” She was an inspired choice to voice Elsa, the character who struggles to find her identity as her sister attempts to connect with her. We know she can sing live, as she has demonstrated as much over and over in her stage performances.
“Let It Go” continued its night in the spotlight, as it also captured the Best Original Song Oscar, with songwriters Bobby Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez accepting the award. The song has only gained in popularity over the last few months, and with the huge victory, it is clear that it is not going away anytime soon!
