Tomorrowland is the latest live-action film from director Brad Bird, who last worked on Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, which was released over two years ago. Fans of the director’s work, which also includes Pixar films, have been anticipating his next project, a film we do not know much about. We may not have many clues as to the story of the film, a remarkable feat for secrecy considering that it is a little over one year from release. That may sound far away, but the release date can sneak up on a film crew. That likely will not be the case for Bird, as he has announced that filming is complete!
The movie has been filming at Disneyland’s “it’s a small world” attraction for the past few days, which seems to be centric to the story involving the 1964 World’s Fair in NY, where the ride debuted before moving to the west coast. That area of Disneyland has been shut down to guests, but interested onlookers have had a chance to see crew and extras strolling about. Still, they have not had much to see, as most of the views have been locked down.

As he notes, the filming started with the crew shooting on a set that designers had made to appear as the World’s Fair grounds. It is poetic that the last day of filming also involve a sequence for the Fair. To celebrate, he joined Michael Giacchino, the composer on Bird’s previous films in addition to Tomorrowland, on a ride through of Space Mountain:

Filming may be complete, but there is much more work to be done. There is a fair amount of editing that is likely required. Additionally, green screens were seen utilized by the crew, so effects need to be added as well. One cannot help but get more excited that we are one step closer to seeing the finished film.
Tomorrowland debuts in theaters on May 22, 2015!
